Pacific Islands University held, “A Celebration of Micronesia,” a fundraising dinner on Monday, March 7 at 6:00 PM at Puntan Dos Amantes (Two Lovers’ Point). Please scroll to the bottom of the page to see pictures from the event.
The event was a significant one for PIU. First, it honors the founding of PIU as the Micronesian Institute of Biblical Studies in Chuuk in 1976 and the establishment of the Pacific Islands Bible College campus on Guam in 1991. The 40th (Ruby) and 25th (Silver) anniversaries recognize the efforts and support of faculty, staff, and benefactors for the last forty years. They also signal the need for PIU to meet the many spiritual, programmatic, and financial challenges of the future.
The event was also significant because it is an opportunity to raise funds to address two critical PIU needs. First, the structures in which students live and the furniture they use have withstood the test of time but are in need of serious attention. Second, our students from the other islands in Micronesia, who live in the dorms, need some support to allow them to spend less time earning money to pay their bills and more time on their studies, their involvement with local churches, and their community service. The students work hard, but they need a helping hand in meeting the financial expectations of living on campus.
We hope you recognize that PIU graduates contribute to the well-being of their communities if they continue to live on Guam or move to Hawaii and the U.S. mainland. A significant number of them return to the FSM, RMI, or Palau to take their place in education, government, and business positions. They use their education and the enhancement of their biblical worldview to make a difference for themselves, their families, and their communities.
