Pacific Islands University Announces New Reduced Tuition Rate to Begin Summer 2015
To celebrate 25 years of teaching classes on Guam, since 1991, the Board of Trustees of Pacific Islands University voted to reduce the tuition rate effective for the Summer 2015 term. The new tuition rate will now be $199.10 per unit; this means that students who are eligible to receive a full Pell grant will be able to cover the cost of four courses each semester. Pacific Islands University is the only accredited private Christian University in the Marianas and Micronesia regions. Even as the only private University, the new tuition rate makes PIU a financially competitive choice in the region. And, because PIU does not participate in the Federal Loan program, students who complete their education at PIU graduate debt free.
Board Chairman Howard Merrell, had this to say about the board’s decision to reduce the cost of tuition, “Our dedicated staff is offering excellence in education. Reducing tuition is about accessibility, and a servant attitude. We know that many of our potential students struggle with limited resources. This is a way we can serve the Island communities. This is where excellence meets accessibility.”
Pacific Islands University offers accredited Associate of Arts and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Liberal Studies and Biblical Studies. PIU also offers a Master of Arts in Religion and a Master of Arts in Biblical & Theological Studies. In addition to degree programs, PIU offers several certificates, in Basic English, Dive Instruction, & Biblical Studies. Along with these degree and certificate programs, PIU offers a rigorous and very successful remedial program.
Although enrollment is under 100, PIU boasts a very diverse and lively campus. The student population is composed of over 10 different ethnicities and the faculty is nearly as diverse with 7 different ethnicities represented. Students and staff appreciate the opportunity to learn from so many different cultures.
