Liberal Arts Chair Appointment

.The administrative body of Pacific Islands University wishes to announce the appointment of Paul Drake to the office of Liberal Studies.

Paul, originally from New England, felt compelled to study for the ministry in response to the Great Commission. While preparing for vocational ministry, he received a Masters of Religious Education from Canadian Theological College. He went on to further his education in Library Science, a field he had grown to love, and received a masters degree in Library Science from the University of Alberta.

Paul has since held the positions of librarian and assistant professor on United States university campuses, assuming his recent role of Library Director and Instructor for Pacific Islands University in 2014. The decision of the Administration to appoint Paul as

the new Liberal Studies Chair is a critical step for the development of the Liberal Studies Department. Academic Vice President Dot Houde said regarding Paul’s appointment, “Eminently qualified…I’m excited because I believe he’ll bring a lot to the table.”

In April of 2018, Paul received the University’s Christian Vision Award—an award given to faculty or staff members recognized as displaying the University’s efforts to “inculcate a community of selfless service with singular focus on the pleasure of the Lord Jesus Christ.” Paul’s sentiments about his appointment to the position only reinforce his enormous commitment to Christ and the ministry of PIU: “I am honored to be able to continue to be of service in PIU’s mission to provide excellent education that transforms the lives of young men and women who are the future leaders of their families, communities and Micronesia. All to God’s glory.”

Congratulations, Paul! Your service to us is an evident token of God’s gracious care for this institution.
