The Dr. Dave Owen Memorial Fund Announced

PIU President, Howard Merrell, is pleased to announce the launch of the Dr. Dave Owen Memorial Fund (DDOMF).

Almost three years ago, former President Dr. Dave Owen fell ill while on a “short” trip to California. Dave was soon diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoma. Instead of returning to Guam, Dave went to heaven this past spring.

A video, asking the question, “How does one honor a man like Dr. Dave Owen?” has been prepared as part of the material launching this capital fund drive.

Other materials related to the DDOMF can be found at the Dr. Dave Owen Memorial Fund” Blog. Instructions for giving can be found there or at the PIU Donate page.

This campaign answers the question posed in the video this way, “We honor someone like Dave by continuing the work to which he gave his life.” The DDOMF represents a big step in seeing that this takes place.

In brief the Dr. Dave Owen Memorial Fund has been established to raise $200,000 in Dr. Owen’s memory. This will enable PIU to move forward in three significant ways.

  1. The establishment of an on-campus Prayer-Spot, looking back on the heritage of prayer Dave left, while looking to a future as bright as God’s grace.
  2. Enable PIU to undertake important improvements on its main building, which will be named in Dave’s honor.
  3. Establish a Presidential Endowment.
Two kick-off events are taking place on Guam.
    • On September 27, the DDOMF is being launched at a luncheon at SureStay Hotel.
    • On October 11 the Guam Ministerial Association has invited PIU to share about the campaign.

If other friends of PIU are interested in hosting an event to promote this campaign, please get in touch with DDOMF Secretary, Kathy Merrell at [email protected]. We will do our best to work with you, to be at your event either in person or via electronic connection.
